Miss Carol also features some finger and hand puppets, rod and miniature marionettes, and her special puppet aprons.
What Is Cabaret Puppetry?
The cabaret style of puppetry is a marionette variety show, where puppets approximately 3 feet tall perform a vast array of acts referred to as vignettes (short skits). Puppets sing, dance, play musical instruments, perform circus tricks such as juggling, do comedy, magical illusion, tell jokes, stories and more. They interact with the audience and usually do so without a stage enabling the puppets to be very life like and to walk right up to the audience members.
As the puppeteer pulls a few strings the marionettes captivate audiences and leave them spellbound.
Where Did This Style Come From?
Frank Paris, a famous puppeteer forgot to bring his stage one time, and performed the show without it. The audience did not miss the puppet theatre, in fact, it added to the effect of the puppets as in real cabaret with people performing variety acts instead of puppets, and the audience marveled at watching how the marionettes were performed. This is how cabaret marionette theatre came to be.
Miss Carol's Style
Miss Carol performs in a cabaret style, but with a puppet theatre, in an innovative way, allowing for much interaction between the puppets and the audience members. As the drapes open and close, another marionette appears, but in front of the stage. Most people enjoy a stage presence, yet they also enjoy the interaction between the puppets, the puppeteer, and the audience. Miss Carol presents puppet aprons, rod, hand and finger puppets and her marionettes featuring her original tales, parodies, songs and variety acts, also familiar childhood favorites from fairy tales, folklore, nursery rhymes, animals, from music, dance and more, from the world around us through puppetry.
